Adding new languages to the installer is not as trivial as what was proposed in
the mentioned merge requests!
Are there translators who are willing to work on the translation of the
installer? The installer consists of nearly 100 packages with translatable
material.

You can get an overview of that under
https://d-i.debian.org/l10n-stats/
As a bare minimum, sublevel1 should be complete to activate the language,
which means ~1900 strings to translate.
Not sure, how much translation can be imported from Ubuntu though...
What's the translation status there?
(BTW: are Occitan or Kabyle selectable in Ubuntu currently? I did not find
them easily there in the installer.)

The process of adding a new language to the installer is also documented
at https://d-i.debian.org/doc/i18n-guide/ch03.html

So long
Holger
