Comments/Problems:

I was trying to install Debian 8.1r0 into a virtual machine running under VirtualBox. Meanwhile I tried 8.2r0
as well, some details differ but the problem is essentially the same. I keep to version 8.1r0 in this report
though, since this is the version I've got the logs for.

I'm using the same procedure with only minor variations since Debian 3 at first under VMware, since Debian 6
under VirtualBox, so far without any problems. The latest version I tried successfully was Debian 7.6. For a
detail installation log please see below.

However, with both versions, 8.1r0 and 8.2r0, the installation fails in the step to install additional
software, unfortunately without a meaningful error message. It just says that step failed. A subsequent
attempt to install the GRUB boot loader fails as well. I couldn't figure out the reasons from the logs either.

I noticed, however, that while fetching the files only 1464 of 1467 (version 8.1r0) respectively 1465 out of
1467 (version 8.2r0) are downloaded. So apparently the installation procedure fails to fetch some files.

Usually, when ask if I want to read in additional CDs/DVDs, I do that for all 13 DVDs of the DVD set. I'm not
sure if that's really necessary. If I skip that test I'm ask in the next question if I want to use a software
mirror. I noticed, that when I read in all DVDs of the DVD set, then the question to use a software mirror is
skipped.

I went trough the installation procedure quite a few times, three of my attempts so far were apparently
successful (1x 8.1r0 with Gnome GUI, 1x 8.1r0 with all GUIs, 1x 8.2r0 with Gnome GUI). In two of these case I
got an error reported regarding a not reachable software mirror. I guess that error was due to temporary high
load an my home network. I got the question, if I want to reconfigure it. I did so in both cases (my choice:
ftp.de.debian.org). In the third case (8.1r0 with all GUIs) I did not bother to read in all 13 DVDs, I was
asked instead, if I want to use a software mirror. Though I have no log of my answer in that particular trial,
I think my answer was to use a software mirror. If that's the case then in all successful installation
attempts the use of a software mirror was either explicitly acknowledged or reconfigured and acknowledged.
Without that acknowledgement the installation seems to fail, due to a few missing files.

Hence there seems to be two potential problems in the current installation procedure:

1. The procedure should work even without software mirror.
2. I'm not asked to use a software mirror when reading in additional DVDs/CDs
