Package: installation-reports

Hi,

I booted d-i over the network using PMON (the Yeeloong's BIOS). I don't
think this is documented anywhere so I will explain what I did:

PMON> ifaddr rtl0 192.168.1.2
PMON> load tftp://192.168.1.1/vmlinux-3.14-2-loongson-2f
PMON> initrd tftp://192.168.1.1/initrd.gz
PMON> g

For complex network configurations: you cannot specify a subnet mask,
default gateway or static routes. Therefore, the TFTP server and the
device's assigned IP address must be in the same subnet.

Comments/Problems:

I only picked 'standard' and 'SSH server' tasks so was surprised
to see these installed:

  libcairo2 libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx libgtk2.0-0 libgtk2.0-bin
  libgtk2.0-common libpangocairo-1.0-0 pinentry-gtk2

I think the latter was solely responsible for pulling in the others as
Depends or Recommends.

This failure to install GRUB didn't matter, because it still created
correct configuration, and I had pre-existing GRUB boot blocks. After
continuing without bootloader, finalising the install and rebooting it
was fine.

Some systemd fun:

On first boot I asked for a rescue shell. After entering my password at
the root password prompt, I was given a rescue shell *and* another root
password prompt. Keystrokes randomly went to one or the other, making
it totally unusable. Pressing ^D a few times got me into 'default'
mode/runlevel. The bug was unreproducible on subsequent reboots. If it
ever happened while trying to rescue a downed server in a hurry, systemd
would be getting uninstalled and never coming back.

On a normal boot, I only have a login shell on tty1; others ttys are
blank with no processes running on them. There are no 'getty' processes
running, leading me to guess systemd does not use /etc/inittab. Neither
could I guess how else to configure this by grepping for tty1 in /etc/

systemd gives lots of console output during boot, but the login prompt
clears the screen so that I can't read it, and can't even scroll back
to it with Shift+PageUp. I think the last thing it said was
"FAILED: login" although I did get a login prompt.

Not sure when the free/meminfo output below was generated, but right
now in 'default' mode/runlevel, logged in and reportbug running, it is
much more reasonable:

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1031328 160736 870592 5872 15136 84992
