With alpha1 it succeeds without problems.
So, there is something different with alpha2...
Note, that this was i386, tested on a real machine (IBM Thinkpad)!

Then I tested an alpha2 netinst amd64 image on QEMU, and it works fine!
Need to find out where the difference is...
