Comments/Problems:

If I tell tasksel to install the desktop environment + LXQt, sddm will 
not start, but startx will bring up the GUI.  If I instead have it 
install MATE or LXDE, a GUI login screen comes up.

I have not tried other DEs yet.

I guess. It might ba an issue with Hyper-V rather than sddm, but I
genuinely don't know.
