I think we've mentioned in a few bug reports that shipping .so in m-a
paths wasn't needed/recommended, but the linker looks there so that
isn't an issue in the general case.

For packages with hardcoded paths like this one seems to have, updating
the udeb to match the paths used in the deb looks good to me.
