You might be looking for debian preseed capability? https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/apb.html

I pxeboot my servers, and feed them a preseed file to auto install the basic operating system to get to a minimal stable system.

I then use SaltStack to automatically install applications and associated configurations.
