While i am at it anyway, I did bulk-test this for
stretch,sid,jessie,wheezy,squeeze,lenny,etch X i368,amd64:
1.0.83 vanilla:
* All work except squeeze (i386+amd64).
1.0.83+5bb1da69596828821fe43b3ee63f733e4b8672e7(your patch):
* All work fine.
So I really think your patch is fine ;).
