Problems with updating installing current testing distribution.

Last Monday I went to update my testing distribution.

After a reboot I suddenly could no longer use my computer. For some 
strange reason I just noticed the terminal login and then started X and 
the screen stayed black. Unfortunately apparently the old method (ctrl 
alt backspace) to kill X no longer works so I could not check what went 
wrong.

When I went to a new install of my testing distribution I ran into the 
same problem.

All this occurred with a  laptop TOSHIBA Skullcandy AMD A8 processor and 
Radeon graphics.

Now I Installed the stable distribution to have a functioning computer 
but I'd like testing back.

Anyone can help?
