I also had found other traces of this bug on the web.
For your demand of /var/log/installer/syslog You must know this thing: I had tested the bug on a "Compaq Presario CQ60" and I had changed the disk before the operation. But now I re-install my usual disk in my computer to work But I found also on the Web this conversation which confirm the bug (you must see in the comment date 23/10: Note that fact: the installer after processing had made a "debconf-show grub-pc" which show that grub is not installed
