Thank you! This one boots just fine. The installer screen shows on as expected.

No, I did not touch these. There is only /etc/modules exists and its empty.
/etc/modprobe.d/ has just fbdev-blacklist.conf and modesetting.conf.

You're right. I've unpacked generated initrd, and hp_sdc.ko is not
there while it is in the /lib/modules...
