Any reason why the CD FAQ would not be the right and proper place for
this documentation? After all, it already contains advice for users of
other OSs on how to burn an image to a CD.

The Guide is for describing *how* to install Debian, not for how not to
install it. The CD FAQ would appear to be ideal for such advice.

A similar suggestion to recommend software in the Guide over which
Debian has no control met with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. Please see
#692309.
