this might be related to #698347 in that the changes made to debootstrap in
that bug would most likely also fix this bug.

So maybe instead of adding a --variant=proot option as explained in #698347 it
would make sense to add switches which allow to turn off some things
debootstrap does so that it works with proot as well as under lxc.
