Additional info:

On my Thinkpad T60, I have another wireless LAN adapter (Intel
Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG), using the iwl3945 driver.
On that machine everything works fine: provide firmware via usbstick,
get firmware installed, and connect via WPA2 to accesspoint.

So this problem probably boils down to the ipw2100 driver.

Thus reassign to linux kernel?
