In the installer the option to check if the install media is intact using hashsums should be the very first step. Currently it's among the last steps. People will now end up installing from broken media and will get all kind of strange behavior and conclude Debian is rubbish. Most people don't check the .iso they've downloaded either.

thanks for your report.

Since Lennart didn't keep you in copy when replying, I'm quoting the
relevant parts of his mail:
| I have never had a bad install image yet.
|
| The order of the items is the order in which they are typically done.
| Since a media check is in general unnecesary and a total waste of
| time, it belongs where it is, in the same place as 'launch a shell'.
| It is something to be used only if you have a problem or think you have
| a problem.
|
| And even if you really think you need to check it, once you checked
| it on one machine, you wouldn't need to do it on a second machine you
| are installing on, so again, it is NOT a normal step of an install,
| and hence should not be in the list of normal steps,.

I'm quite OK with this line of reasoning so I don't think we'll
implement any changes in the installer on that topic. I'm closing this
bug report accordingly.

Mraw,
KiBi.
