Subject: installation-guide: USB boot

Hi,

Installation guide on USB boot is a bit outdated and may need some touch
up. (I could not find package to file bug report.)

=== USB-HDD and USB Legacy ===

http://d-i.debian.org/manual/en.i386/apas02.html#howto-getting-images-usb
A.2.2. USB memory stick

| Some BIOSes can boot USB storage directly, and some cannot. You may need
| to configure your BIOS to boot from a “removable drive” or even a
| “USB-ZIP” to get it to boot from the USB device. For helpful hints and
| details, see Section 5.1.5, “Booting from USB Memory Stick”.

I think this can be:

| Some BIOSes can boot USB storage directly, and some cannot. You may need
| to configure your BIOS to set "USB legacy support". The boot device
| selection menu should show “removable drive”, "USB-HDD", or even
| “USB-ZIP” to get it to boot from the USB device. For helpful hints and
| details, see Section 5.1.5, “Booting from USB Memory Stick”.

The rationale is:
Since current document focus is on iso image copied onto USB, this is
confusing to have USB-ZIP and not USB-HDD. Many new BIOSs have USB-HDD
boot support if USB legacy support is enabled. USB-HDD installation is
quite easy, it is usable and intuitive from the HDD image and documented
in:
4.3.2. Manually copying files to the USB stick
4.3.3. Manually copying files to the USB stick — the flexible way
These seems to be complete.

=== USB-ZIP ===

USB-ZIP is said to require special partition and use /de/sd?4 for the
data as documented in the syslinux documentation:
/usr/share/doc/syslinux-common/txt/usbkey.txt

So adding pointer to this is needed somewhere on the document is
desirable (Probably at the bottom of 4.3.)

=== USB Legacy and interfarence ===

http://d-i.debian.org/manual/en.amd64/ch03s06.html#boot-dev-select
3.6.2. Boot Device Selection

Here, mention that you may need to enable "USB legacy support" to get
USB memory stick to become bootable.

(I have been bitten several times. So I am sure on this.)

3.6.4. Disabling the Windows 8 “fast boot” feature

Here, mention that enabling "USB legacy support" may interfare with
booting of Windows 8.

(This is what I saw on the net.)

Regards,

Osamu
