For a quite large number of sunxi-based devices, MMC/SD is the
only useable storage option.  Not all SOCs of the sunxi-family
have a SATA controller and even on devices with those that have
one, it is often not available on a connector, so splitting the
boot code and the rest of the installation onto different storage
devices is unfortunately not possible for a significant part of
the hardware base.
