DirectFB allows to set [1] the way the desktop window buffering mechanism works by disabling the backend buffer. The result, in my experiments, was saving some some hundreds KB of memory with no noticeable drawbacks. I propose to apply the attached one-line patch and look for possible artifact which may appear on the display, and in the case reverse the patch.
