Bug#722728: Installer does not boot on UltraSparc Workstation

Georg,

Here is a possible work around to your issue....
I was able to get a SPARC Ultra45 to install Debian wheezy from a netinstall
CDROM (debian-7.1.0-sparc-netinst.iso 2013-06-16 06:57) via
a serial tty console and also using a netinstall via the GUI console.

The key here is, I was seeing the same problem you were and
dug into it. Turns out the video card (standard XVR-100 S01 (ATI radeon))
is broken under Debian wheezy (it was also somewhat broken under Debian
squeeze, but worked enough to not be an issue). To get this to work you will
need to remove the video card and use the serial port as a console.
I also tried a few other cards which did not work ...
the one that was somewhat usable was the ATI FireGL V3100
which was fine during the install... but useless after the system came up
(the fonts are something undecipherable, but that is another issue to track
down).

The easy route...

- install using the serial port console to another machine
you will have to change the OBP settings ...
Note: change autoboot or you can't get back from SILO
  to OBP easily....

// This is from debian squeeze
   # eeprom output-device=ttya
   # eeprom input-device=ttya
   # eeprom auto-boot?=false

 // OR from OBP
   setenv output-device tty
   setenv input-device tty
   setenv auto-boot? false

Then just boot from the netinstall disk...

  {1} ok boot cdrom

The machine is a standard SUN Ultra45
