The question is: Why isn't the connection type detected as being "wired"? By setting "ifupdown" you simply skip the logic that should ensure that the right thing is being done. Unless n-m got installed. Is it possible that a desktop system was installed here? With network-manager being present in the final installation? If so, wasn't network-manager configured (it should be)? It will place a file in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections. Obviously by preseeding ifupdown one has explicit configuration through interfaces(5) in the target, hence n-m will ignore the device. Kind regards Philipp Kern
