Hi all, I think I bumped on the same problem with a fresh wheezy 7.2.0 netinstall, installed on a usb pen drive. While attempting to install wheezy on a mac mini (version 5,1) by booting this usb netinstall, the installer asks me to insert a removable media which contains the firmwares : Some of your hardware needs non-free firmware files to operate. The firmware can be loaded from removable media, such as a USB stick or floppy. The missing firmware files are: b43/ucode29_mimo.fw b43-open/ucode29_mimo.fw If you have such media available now, insert it, and continue. Load missing firmware from removable media ? Then I plug a FAT-formatted usb drive on which I had put the missing files, then select <Yes>. After 3 seconds, I am presented the same screen that suggests me to insert a removable media with missing firmwares. I initially thought what was wrong was that the files I had put on the usb stick were wrong, but after analyzing the logs, I found that debian-installer doesn't actually attempt to mount the FAT partition of my usb stick, as can be shown in the logs section below : Nov 6 13:59:44 kernel: [ 7882.026615] usb 3-4: new high-speed USB device number 17 using xhci_hcd Nov 6 13:59:44 kernel: [ 7882.045463] usb 3-4: New USB device found, idVendor=0718, idProduct=0433 Nov 6 13:59:44 kernel: [ 7882.045467] usb 3-4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 Nov 6 13:59:44 kernel: [ 7882.045469] usb 3-4: Product: Nano Nov 6 13:59:44 kernel: [ 7882.045470] usb 3-4: Manufacturer: Imation Nov 6 13:59:44 kernel: [ 7882.045471] usb 3-4: SerialNumber: 078B0D132AF2 Nov 6 13:59:44 kernel: [ 7882.045865] scsi13 : usb-storage 3-4:1.0 Nov 6 13:59:45 kernel: [ 7883.078938] scsi 13:0:0:0: Direct-Access Imation Nano PMAP PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 CCS Nov 6 13:59:45 kernel: [ 7883.079616] sd 13:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7883.599109] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] 7929856 512-byte logical blocks: (4.06 GB/3.78 GiB) Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7883.599407] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Write Protect is off Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7883.599411] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Mode Sense: 23 00 00 00 Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7883.599698] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] No Caching mode page present Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7883.599702] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7883.972481] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] No Caching mode page present Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7883.972485] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7884.003704] sdc: sdc1 Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7884.004632] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] No Caching mode page present Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7884.004634] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through Nov 6 13:59:46 kernel: [ 7884.004636] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk Nov 6 14:00:11 kernel: [ 7908.971860] FAT-fs (sda): utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive!
