As far as I can determine, documentation describing netcfg's behaviour
when writing /e/n/i at the end of the install is non-existant. It appears
to follow a principle of producing maximum surprise. I'll mention that
#709017 also has the same origin as this bug

Another text-based network management tool is ceni. It is maintained by
the same team which maintains Debian's wpasupplicant and is at
http://debian.tu-bs.de/project/aptosid/debian/pool/main/c/ceni/ceni_2.26_all.deb
