Package: installation-reports Version: 2.11.3-4 I installed from a commercially purchased Debian 6.0.6 Installation DVD i386 from LinuxCollections.com. Installation was successful, although I have no Internet access to this machine as my only access is via an iPhone 4 as a WiFi Hotspot. The installation did not install 'wireless-tools' package, so I could only use 'ifconfig' to check for any wireless activity. The 'lspci -knn' is included and the following is it's output. 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Device [8086:0150] (rev 09) Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. This is a new install, when I tried previously, I attempted to load the ath9k.ko module by hand as it was not loaded by the machine at install. It still would not operate. I will append the 'dmesg' output at the end as it is longer and I don't know what I'm looking for. Following is the output of modprobe -l | grep ath kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath5k/ath5k.ko kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/ath9k.ko kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ar9170/ar9170usb.ko kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath.ko kernel/drivers/md/multipath.ko kernel/drivers/md/dm-multipath.ko kernel/drivers/infiniband/hw/ipath/ib_ipath.ko I do not understand why this module is loaded as the first 3 times I installed off this disk it was not loaded. I suspect some other type of bug may also be involved. Below is the output of ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr d4:3d:7e:4d:e1:aa inet addr:192.168.0.104 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::d63d:7eff:fe4d:e1aa/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:57 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:61 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:7069 (6.9 KiB) TX bytes:9516 (9.2 KiB) Interrupt:27 Base address:0xe000 eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 1a:9e:fc:89:fa:07 inet6 addr: fe80::189e:fcff:fe89:fa07/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:21 errors:21 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:4174 (4.0 KiB) lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:8 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:8 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:560 (560.0 B) TX bytes:560 (560.0 B) As you can see the WiFi card is not shown. I further attempted to contact the TP-Link people for support on this card, knowing they would have little to add. But recieved this reply, the second part is my query. So I'm confident this is the chipset. I was assured that there were others that stated that they installed this card and it came up with Linux, which is why I purchased it. Do you have any information about Linux drivers for this card? Thanks for any help you can give me, as I am getting very frustrated. Jack K. Internal card reader for items like SD and CF cards which is connected internally to an unused USB port. Externally there is an Apple iPhone 4, which give errors on boot because it is connected to the USB port and Linux attempts to use it with ipheth or something like that, but it has an unhandled condition and also does not function properly, my next bug report, if I do this one properly. On the Debian site for ath9k drivers (http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/ath9k) they state there is some way to "Enabling ath9k", which I don't understand and seems that it includes building the kernel on your machine. They also mention using the supplied kernel to do something like it, using the 'proc' command. I find this in man, but it's not on my machine. I have also found this at another page in Debian stating that the chipset is support, as Grace from TP-Link stated. The sam page as the driver above, about half way down under 'supported chipsets' and AR9003 the AR9380 is there, but I'm confused as to the terminology. I am running (via uname -r) 2.6.32-5-amd64, they specify something like >= 2.6.36? Thanks for all the help and looking over this stuff. I understand the time you must spend and hope there is something you can do for me. My contact info is Jack Wilborn jkwilborn@gmail.com Thanks Jack

Hi, thank you for submitting installation reports, much appreciated. I read through all the bugs mentioned here (and I'm sure they were read by several people at the time they were submitted) and am closing them now as/if - they (finally) indicated success and/or - I know from first hand experience that the functionality is working in Wheezy and/or - they only contained very little information and/or - they contained user errors and/or - they were caused by broken hardware and/or - they have been from a development phase where things were not stable and/or - they are quite old (and thus likely fixed today) and/or - moreinfo was asked and not given or - they are wishlist but rather special + exotic and not have been acted on for years. (See http://blog.liw.fi/posts/wishlist-bugs/ why it's often useful to close wishlist bugs.) If I've closed a bug incorrectly please do reply (it's easy to reopen and I'll do if requested) or just file a new one - thats often better, as the bug log will be clearer and shorter and not contain cruft. cheers, HolgerAttachment: signature.asc
