I've been pointing to those instructions for a few years now but no-one
pointed this out!  Maybe they already had it installed or just quietly
filled in the missing step (as APT does give a hint).  I'll update the
text, anyway.

Not if APT::Install-Recommends has been disabled.

Anyway, have you been able to test either patch now?
