Re: GSoC project

Hi Sorina

Please keep the CC to the debian-boot@lists.debian.org mailinglist. This
is the mailinglist for debian-installer development.

I haven't had a close look at it but I guess that just nobody took the
time to fix the issue. The installer team is sometimes a bit short on
manpower.

Applications only open tomorrow. As far as I know there are no specific
requirements beside the obvious ones (you need a google account, you
have to be an universitity student, you have to have time during the
summer to work on the project, ...). But check the summer of code site
for the details. For the application in the Debian wiki please use the
provided template (see my previous mail).

I meant that I might give all of you a small task to evaluate your
skills. If you look at the timeline[1] you will see that there is a 2
weeks period in April where mentoring organizations review and rank
student proposals. Is it more clear now?

No problem with the "late" answer. It's after all only 10 hours after my
last mail. I wouldn't call that a late answer...

The easiest way to test modifications is to build a test image of the
installer and to run that in a virtual machine. The process of building
images is explained in the d-i internals manual [2]. The Debian Wiki
also contains some information[3][4].

For wireless testing I used KVM with libvirt and virt-manager. There you
can configure your virtual machine so that KVM passes through your
wireless device with PCI passthrough. For this to work you need a
computer with Intel VT-d or AMD IOMMU CPU extensions. The Fedora
Documentation about Virtualization has more details about how to
configure this [5]. This is equally applicable to Debian.
