I forgot to add that I have an 'NVIDIA GeForce" card. I wonder if the change to a VGA display via a cable change is part of the problem. I also wonder if there is some way to get control of the machine before it completes the restart or boot. It responds to CTL-ALT-DEL keys and reboots, but is there any other combination that will just give me control in a command line?
