Well, I'm not so worried about myself. While I didn't know that installing firmware-linux-nonfree would solve the problem, I simply did boot with radeon.kms=0 and installed the other non-free solution (ie, AMD's proprietary driver).

The real problem is that the system is unusable by default, and requires more than good Googling skills to figure out how to fix. If this bug is not going to be fixed because fixing it requires installing firmware-linux-nonfree by default, then either the installer should warn that installing Debian on this system will result in a non-working installation or it should disable KMS by default so the system at least boots, even if rather handicapped.
