Package: installation-reports Boot method: credit card image booted from USB key Image version: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/i386/jigdo-cd/debian-testing-i386-netinst.jigdo Image date: 2012/08/02 17:27 Installation date: 2012/08/02 Machine: Desktop PC Processor: Pentium DualCore E2200 Memory: 2 GB Partitions: installer fails before partitioning stage Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [O] Detect network card: [E] Configure network: [ ] Detect CD: [ ] Load installer modules: [ ] Detect hard drives: [ ] Partition hard drives: [ ] Install base system: [ ] Clock/timezone setup: [ ] User/password setup: [ ] Install tasks: [ ] Install boot loader: [ ] Overall install: [ ] Comments/Problems: The machine has a TP-Link TL-WN721N 802.11n WLAN dongle (based on an Atheros AR9271 chipset) connected via USB. As long as this device is connected to the computer, the "detect network" stage just hangs forever. If the WLAN dongle is not connected to the machine, d-i works as expected. The firmware for the WLAN dongle is non-free and therefore not included in d-i, but the installation should not hang completely just because the device is connected to the computer. The device itself is supported by Linux and works when connected after the installation is finished, provided the (non-free) package firmware-atheros has been installed.
