Comments/Problems:

The machine has a TP-Link TL-WN721N 802.11n WLAN dongle (based on an
Atheros AR9271 chipset) connected via USB. As long as this device is
connected to the computer, the "detect network" stage just hangs
forever. If the WLAN dongle is not connected to the machine, d-i works
as expected.

The firmware for the WLAN dongle is non-free and therefore not included
in d-i, but the installation should not hang completely just because
the device is connected to the computer.

The device itself is supported by Linux and works when connected after
the installation is finished, provided the (non-free) package
firmware-atheros has been installed.
