It's not usually worth to file such bugs against packages in obsolete
releases; this one has been fixed several years ago already.

Hardly. :-)

I don't know since when --print-architecture existed, but according to
the changelog it has done the same as --print-installation-architecture
since dpkg 1.13.1, released 2005.
