You mention "it hangs". Is the machine really hanged? What about Ctrl-Alt-F2 to switch to the console? Or reaching the machine from the network. To investigate the issue, X maintainers need the full X.org log (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) as well as the output of "dmesg".
