Bug#637684: Confirm Still Prevalent In Debian Sid

almost positive i'm seeing the same thing here in Sid with vanilla install in chroot environment. i swear my grub-install script used to work, here's some evidence:

grub-install /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD800AAJS-18TDA1_WD-WMAM9RD59819
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD800AAJS-18TDA1_WD-WMAM9RD59819. Check your device.map.

cat /boot/grub/device.map (in chroot)
(hd0) /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD800AAJS-18TDA1_WD-WMAM9RD59819

not sure how more exact that could be. for the record, grub-install /dev/sda worked, but due to automated build scenario this is not really ideal here.

grub-mkdevicemap manually seems to re-create that same file also....
