Bug#655099: installation-reports: amd 64 install freezes in partitioning step

Package: installation-reports
Severity: important
Tags: d-i

Problem:
Unable to install debian 6.0.3 as installation freezes during
partitioning step.

System:
Asus P8H67-I motherboard w/8GB RAM
Intel Core i7 2600 CPU
Corsair Force 3 60GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD
Corsair 16GB USB stick with debian-6.0.3-amd64-CD-1.iso on
Other USB stick with package firmware-realtek on

Installation procedure:
Copied debian-6.0.3-amd64-CD-1.iso to USB stick using cat (on other computer)
Inserted USB stick, started computer
Chose "graphical expert" installation
Installation went as expected until the partitioning step, where it froze
with the progress bar halfway.

Observations: Log showed that at this point the USB mouse was being
disconnected and rediscovered over and over. See also bug #602147,
where something similar is mentioned. This is however probably
completely unrelated to the problem at hand.

Repeated attempt 1:
As above, but chose (non-graphical) expert mode. Removed mouse first.
Installation freezes at "Startar program for partisjonering" (starting
program for partitioning), with the progress bar at half done.

Could use other consoles. Started cfdisk, partitioned the SSD and HDD,
hoping this could resolve the issue for the next attempt.

Repeated attempt 2:
As repeated attempt 1 (except I now had pre-partitioned hard drives).
Tried to skip the partitioning step, which was not allowed.
Did partitioning step, which froze as before.

Log says:
partman: No matching physical volumes found
partman: No volume groups found
partman: Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while
partman-lvm: No volume groups found

The symptoms seem similar or identical to those described in
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=72275

With kind regards
