I've had similar problems with my recent laptop:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc NI Seymour [AMD Radeon 
HD 6470M]

I've also seen here another person complaining about the same, also with a 
newer ATI Radeon graphic card.
Please blacklist the module radeon to be sure it's the cause of the problem.
If this is confirmed we should reassign the bug report to the proper package.
