Bug#609618: Installation bug report re: squeeze

Hi Christian,
First: your questions: the HDD I am installing squeeze to is the only disc in the system (SATA). I am using the whole disc with a separate HOME partition.

My Gigabyte manual says the "Storage Interface" is "South Bridge: 6 x SATA 3 Gb/s..." And under Chipset it says "South Bridge: Intel ICH10".

I am willing to look further into this by examining the motherboard if you want.

Now continuing my efforts:

First, I downloaded the netinst version at http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/squeeze_di_rc1/i386/iso-cd/debian-sq-di-rc1-i386-netinst.iso, but Nero gave me an error message: The entered block size does not correspond to the image length. The block size may be wrong. Do you want to correct the value or ignore the problem? Not knowing what to do, I canceled. Trying a second image from the same source produced the same error message.

Next, I downloaded the business card image at http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/squeeze_di_rc1/i386/iso-cd/debian-sq-di-rc1-i386-businesscard.iso which Nero did not complain about.

So I installed squeeze from the business card image. I ran into the same problem as before: PXE-E53: NO BOOT FILENAME RECEIVED

So, being an experimenter, I tried flippig the the PNP/DEV boot setting: no effect.

A couple of times, after I have putzed with the BIOS startup settings, the system did not produce the NO BOOT error, but appeared to almost start up. The last message before the screen goes blank is "Waiting for DEV..."

I hope the above helps.

Regards,
Otto

We woulc need more details about your setup, particularly the disk
setup for this machine.

Are there other disks than the one you're installing to? What is the
disk controller?

Also, can you test images from there:
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/.squeeze_di_rc1/

These are the release candidate 1 images....which are very likely to
become the official images for the release of squeeze.

Many thanks in advance.
