Comments/Problems:I'm still not handling the installation properly. The defaults on this image are  new.

The install went OK considering it's my first time using xfs on the /boot partition. 
I noticed on tty4, a warning about installing grub to xfs. 
Detect hard disk took about 10 minutes (sleep 10)?
I suspect it was due to the 2 empty SATA sockets. 
I tried to bypass the ltsp chroot and educ setup - I had to include that as well. 
I suspect that is why my user did not get installed, I just added him after reboot. 
I also made a few miscalls with my 2 attempts to install grub to (hd1,0), 
after I give the installer the (hd1,0) address it told me 
it would be OK to install to (hd0,0) 
"It went right by me" and failed. I'd have a hard time explaining that one from what I remember happening. 
I tried again to install grub to (hd1,0) but it failed the second time. 
I wasn't expecting it to install on xfs initially and I'll give that another try later.
The ATA disks were named hdx and I haven't seen that in a year or two. 
I was a bit confused when after rebooting to 
root=/dev/sdc5 and getting a waiting for root filesystem message.
My "plan" is to remove both ATA disks 
replace them with 2 SATA disks and builld a striped RAID1 set. 
Install XP on the stripe and than see if I can get Debian on it as well.
 

Please make sure that the hardware-summary log file, and any other
installation logs that you think would be useful are attached to this
report. Please compress large files using gzip.

it is needed more information to understand the problem.
A lot has changed in the installer since you filled your report and now
the supported release of the debian installer is the Debian Squeeze
Beta2 (and RC1 is on the way). 
So, it's not very useful to spent effort debugging an unsupported d-i
image when we are very near and working on the Squeeze release.
I invite you to try with the current release of the debian installer and
send an installation report.
