hybrid squeeze iso when dd'ed to a usb results in an installer which installs grub to the 'wrong device'.
The installer will try to install grub2 to /dev/sda, but that is my usb drive! (and thus the wrong 'device').

Which image did you use?  That should be fixed in daily builds and the
upcoming squeeze rc2.
