Bug#610206: partman-auto: please make larger newworld bootblock by default (maybe 5MiB?)
Package: partman-auto
Severity: wishlist
I recently did an install of the squeeze beta2 d-i on powerpc.
partman-auto set up a New World Bootloader partition with something
around 800KiB of space.
While this is fine for yaboot, grub-ieee1275 seems to prefer a larger
partition. If i'm understanding grub-ieee1275 correctly, i think it
wants the newworld bootloader partition to be mounted explicitly at
/boot/grub, and it seems to want to keep around 2MiB of data in there.
I figure a 5MiB newworld bootblock partition wouldn't be unreasonable
-- i have never seens a powerpc machine that would fail with such a
setup, and 5MiB would easily fit both the yaboot files and the grub
files, in case someone wanted to try to transition their machine's
bootloader.
I'm not advocating d-i switching from yaboot to grub for powerpc right
now, but it would be nice to leave the user with space to make such a
transition when they're ready.
