I just tested a graphical expert install with CD1 (there shouldn't be any difference with a DVD install at this step): Choose language: French Choisir le pays: France Choix des paramètres régionaux: leave default You're back to the main menu (now translated) Pick "Configurer le clavier": pick the French keymap (which is the default) Then proceed with install and the keymap is really the French one.
