That's of course true.  György, are you willing to test some
intermediate syslinux versions on this machine?  They are distributed
precompiled at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/.
3.86 was the latest 3.xx release, so it isn't that bad.  First of all,
it would be important to know whether the issue is also present in the
upstream 4.02 and the newest 4.03.  Also, the squeeze installer is an
isohybrid image, but it may be easier to test with simplest syslinux
installations (after checking that isohybrid isn't the problem -- the
lenny installer didn't use it).  You can find current documentation on
http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/SYSLINUX, but note that older
versions can gradually deviate from that (though the bundled docs should
be correct).
