Comments/Problems:

 - (Apart from the minor remarks below) this went very smoothly.
X11 and sound 'just worked', in particular.

 - Getting time from an NTP server hung for a while then quickly moved
on to the next screen without a clear indication of success or
failure. In fact my network wasn't working properly and this would
have been a good place to report that there was a problem.

 - I managed to get the partitioner to hang. I'd selected guided LVM
partitioning but didn't like its decisions so attempted to change
them. Eventually I deleted all the partitions and even the PV and
tried to go through again but the partitioner hung during startup.

   The progress bar shows 52%.

   The last log entry is:
main-menu[32189]: INFO: Menu item 'partman-base' selected

ps shows shows, among other things:
1906 root 6020 S udpkg --configure --force-configure partman-base 1907 root 4004 S /bin/sh /var/lib/dpkg/info/partman-base.postinst con
     1908 root 4140 S /bin/sh /bin/partman
     2020 root 4140 S /bin/sh -e /lib/partman/init.d/35dump
(copy-typed so apologies for any errors.)

fdisk shows the partition layout to be:
     /dev/sda1 * 1 31 248976 83 Linux
     /dev/sda2 32 91201 722323025 8e Linux LVM

NB at this point there is no PV in /dev/sda2 - it has been
pvremove'd. NB this might not have been the case in earlier hangs!

I tried erasing both partitions with fdisk, killing partman and
going through again. This made no difference.

Next I tried zeroing the first megabyte of the disk. This also
   made no difference.

I gave up and rebooted. This solved the problem for me.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
