Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

User/password setup:    [O]
Install tasks:          [O]
Install boot loader:    [O]
Overall install:        [O]

Comments/Problems:

Before I get into an individual discussion of the above items, I wanted to
indicate that a very specific set of steps is required to install so take the
'O' entries above with a grain of salt.

Initial boot:
=============

Of all the install methods I tried, only the Business Card ISO worked. The
full install ISO fails with 'corrupt packages' and is a known issue. The
netboot fails because you need to boot the installer with 'ide=nodma'.

I did the install via console from another Debian etch machine using ser2net
though minicom will probably work much better.

Starting from a completely powered off v100 with the CD in the drive power
it on and wait until you get to the OBP 'ok' prompt. From there, 'boot cdrom'
should get you to the SILO prompt. At that point, you must use:

 expert ide=nodma

or it will bomb out for a number of reasons. Once the installer comes up, the
*first* thing you must do is exit out of the 'Language Selection' and drop to
a shell. Once at a shell,

 modprobe -r dmfe
 modprobe -r tulip
 modprobe tulip

then exit back to the installer.

Detect network card:
====================

Both cards will be detected just fine.

Configure network:
==================

I'm not running DHCP so I manually configured.

Detect CD:
==========

The CD was detected and scanned correctly.

Load installer modules:
=======================

I did not load additional modules but the standard required modules were
loaded with no problems.

Detect hard drives:
===================

Both drives were detected correctly.

Partition hard drives:
======================

The first drive was partitioned with a single / filesystem, /boot, and swap.

Install base system:
====================

The base system installed completely and successfully though at the begining,
the terminal screen went white and appeared to hang. I don't know if this is
due to using ser2net but after waiting for a few minutes, the packages were
shown to be downloading.

Clock/timezone setup:
=====================

No problems here.

User/password setup:
====================

Initially configured the root account only. (Lockdown and non-root accounts
were provisioned once I rebooted into the system.)

Install tasks:
==============

Tasksel ran correctly, though I deselected all tasks to only have the base
installed as a starting point.

Install boot loader:
====================

No problems here.

Overall install:
================

Taking into account the caveats and issues mentioned above, it was a pretty
smooth install.

Below is /proc/cpuinfo in case the 'prom' version is relevant.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
  the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
  D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
  fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
