Comments/Problems:

I'm using a 1999 G3 iMac (strawberry FWIW) to play with Linux. I
installed Debian w/ this CD a few months back, then replaced it w/
Gentoo a few weeks ago, and replaced it w/ Debian again tonight.

Only one hiccup, and it wasn't really install-related: when I tried to
log onto my account for the first time w/ the standards Gnome interface,
I got these error messages and a whole boatload of others:

Error #1
Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when
attempting to locate the factory. Killing bonobo-activation-server and
restarting Nautilus may help fix the problem.

Error #2
There was an error starting GNOME Settings Daemon. Some things, such
as
themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly.

Error #3
There was a problem registering the panel with the bonobo-activation
server.
The error code is: 3
The panel will now exit.

The "boatload" of messages involved various Gnome applets(?). In my
haste, I selected the "delete" buttons, causing the next login attempt
to fail. I therefore decided to reinstall (re-reinstall) Debian.
After I got the same error, I Googled for the problem on
another computer. This page pointed me to an inaccurate hardware clock
as the cause:

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-35082.html

I followed the "solved" posting to set the clock and fix the problem:
<ctrl><option><F1> to get a terminal
logon
sudo hwclock --set --date "MM/DD/YYYY hh:mm:ss"
sudo hwclock -hctosys # the posting used "hwtosys"...not sure if
that's
                       # a typo or an Ubuntu-specific thing
date
sudo shutdown -r now

After that, all was well.

Note to self: see if I need to replace the iMac internal battery, or
something :-)

Package: libparted1.7-udeb
Status: install ok installed
Priority: extra
Section: debian-installer
Installed-Size: 380
Maintainer: Parted Maintainer Team <parted-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org>
Version: 1.7.1-5.1
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.5-1), libuuid1-udeb
Provides: libparted1.7-1
Description: The GNU Parted disk partitioning shared library
GNU Parted is a program that allows you to create, destroy,
resize, move and copy hard disk partitions. This is useful
for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising
disk usage, and copying data to new hard disks. This package
contains the Parted binary and manual page.
 .
This package contains libparted, the required shared library
used by Parted. This is a cut-down package with no normal
documentation intended to be used in debian-installer.
 .
Parted currently supports DOS, Mac, Sun, BSD, GPT, MIPS and
PC98 disklabels/partition tables, as well as a 'loop' (raw
disk) type which allows use on RAID/LVM. Filesystems which
are currently fully supported are ext2, ext3, fat (FAT16
and FAT32), ReiserFS (with libreiserfs) and linux-swap.
Parted can also detect and remove HFS (Mac OS), JFS, NTFS,
UFS (Sun and HP), XFS and ASFS/AFFS/APFS (Amiga) filesystems,
but cannot create, resize or check these filesystems yet.
 .
Note that ReiserFS support is only enabled if you install
the libreiserfs0.3-0 package. Since libreiserfs0.3-0 has been
removed from sarge, ReiserFS support is not compiled in the
 default package.
 .
The nature of this software means that any bugs could cause
massive data loss. While there are no known bugs at the moment,
they could exist, so please back up all important files before
running it, and do so at your own risk.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
