There are two systems on it (well, 3 with MacOS X) : previous one was Ubuntu Edgy, installed Etch in parallel. Root
partitions for the two systems on LVM, with one logical volume for each. Made two separate /boot to avoid problems.

Comments/Problems:

Initial boot OK until partitionning.

I partitionned manually the system, so i was prepared to have some difficulties with my system : previously a dual
boot OSX/Ubuntu machine, i was wanting do add Etch on it. OSX is on a separate HFS+ partition, Ubuntu installed on
two logical volumes (/ and /home) on the lvm partition. I wanted to shrink /home and get some free space to install
Debian on it. Tried it : had a warning about experimental code (ext3 resizing), accepted it. First wired thing : I
had no feedback when partman resized the partition (i.e. it stayed at 0% during the resizing, which lasted for about
15 minutes...), then it went back to partman selection screen, nothing having changed ! The partition still had the
same size. I had already struggled with lvm so i quickly discovered the problem (going to a console and mounting the
partition) : the ext3 fs had been correctly resized, but not the logical volume. I had to lvresize by hand, doing the
math to get the correct size (thanks to e2fsck which showed me the block count, and me "guessing" the block size was
4096 bytes). After that i could create a new lv and make it an ext3 root fs. One inconvenient, though : sizes in
partman are in SI unit, not the usual 1024 factors. It's a bit strange when all the command line tools you use during
install show you "human readable" size with great differences (around 2GB for the partition i was resizing ...)

The rest of the install went smoothly.

On reboot, i saw i had lost the possibility of booting Ubuntu (well, i think my decision to have separate /boot
wasn't a good idea, since yaboot's stage 1 cannot choose more than one /boot partition to boot from). My mistake,
will have to correct that.

Once logged, wrong keyboard layout selected in Gnome (worked well during install, and also in console once rebooted)
: i had to manually select "Apple-Macintosh" as keyboard model; language was correct, though.

Did not have the time to test a lot the system, but all seems fine.

Some remarks :
- some people may be disturbed by the network adapters order : the ethernet-over-ieee1394 is eth0, and isn't very
  usefull to most people
- the default keyboard layout renders the 'Command' ('Apple') key almost useless, as it is mapped like the
'windows' key on PC keyboards. On MacOS X it is used for a lot of other things. Ooops, i just tried and it is in
fact usefull to compose unreachable characters (like [{|€) : good point, even if i used to have a keymap that inverted
Alt and Command (note that these are personnal choices).
- there is a lot of choice in the application list. It's quite disturbing when you come from Ubuntu where all has been
taken down to 'one task, one application' :-)

Otherwise, it's always a pleasure to use debian-installer, as it is very easy to use but still offer a lot of different
possibilities for exotic setups.
Last thing : the overall systems seems more reactive than Ubuntu. Good point !

Thanks everyone for this very pleasant Debian release.

Package: libparted1.7-udeb
Status: install ok installed
Priority: extra
Section: debian-installer
Installed-Size: 380
Maintainer: Parted Maintainer Team <parted-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org>
Version: 1.7.1-5
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.5-1), libuuid1-udeb
Provides: libparted1.7-1
Description: The GNU Parted disk partitioning shared library
GNU Parted is a program that allows you to create, destroy,
resize, move and copy hard disk partitions. This is useful
for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising
disk usage, and copying data to new hard disks. This package
contains the Parted binary and manual page.
 .
This package contains libparted, the required shared library
used by Parted. This is a cut-down package with no normal
documentation intended to be used in debian-installer.
 .
Parted currently supports DOS, Mac, Sun, BSD, GPT, MIPS and
PC98 disklabels/partition tables, as well as a 'loop' (raw
disk) type which allows use on RAID/LVM. Filesystems which
are currently fully supported are ext2, ext3, fat (FAT16
and FAT32), ReiserFS (with libreiserfs) and linux-swap.
Parted can also detect and remove HFS (Mac OS), JFS, NTFS,
UFS (Sun and HP), XFS and ASFS/AFFS/APFS (Amiga) filesystems,
but cannot create, resize or check these filesystems yet.
 .
Note that ReiserFS support is only enabled if you install
the libreiserfs0.3-0 package. Since libreiserfs0.3-0 has been
removed from sarge, ReiserFS support is not compiled in the
 default package.
 .
The nature of this software means that any bugs could cause
massive data loss. While there are no known bugs at the moment,
they could exist, so please back up all important files before
running it, and do so at your own risk.

Version: 1.7.1-5
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.5-1), libparted1.7-udeb (>= 1.7.1-1)
Provides: parted
Description: The GNU Parted disk partition resizing program
GNU Parted is a program that allows you to create, destroy,
resize, move and copy hard disk partitions. This is useful
for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising
disk usage, and copying data to new hard disks. This package
contains the Parted binary and manual page.
 .
This package is similar to the "big" parted package, but has
less cosmetical features resulting in smaller binary. Intended
 to be used in debian-installer.
 .
 .
The nature of this software means that any bugs could cause
massive data loss. While there are no known bugs at the moment,
they could exist, so please back up all important files before
running it, and do so at your own risk.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
