Comments/Problems:

The boot cd was unable to get to an installation menu because it could not
access the CDROM via the JMicron PATA interface.

Even were that successful, the current debian 2.6.18-amd64 kernel does not
work corretcly with the version of the realtek r8168 supported by the
r8169 driver.

Of dubious value is further information obtained using a Ubuntu Feisty
Fawn alternate cd text-mode install.

That install CD used a 2.6.20-rcX kernel, which supported hardware fine,
and installed mostly correctly. However the logic in the installer which
attempst to determine if an operating system is already installed (for
purposes of making boot-loader installation decisions) decided that no
operating system was installed, despite the installation of _three_ (3)
seperate operating systems (as seen above), NetBSD, OpenBSD, and FreeBSD.
I suspect the installer's checking routines are not tuned for this family
of operating systems, but it was very disconcerting to receive this very
wrong conclusion. (Yeah I should report to ubuntu but their silly
launchpad thing wants a registration and then their misconfigured
mailserver failed the graymail test, and .. blah.)

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
