Dear installer team,

first of all, thank you for your work. Here are a few comments on this install :

* I realised that yaboot freezes when the CapsLock of my keyboard is pressed (I submitted a separate
bug for this, #399330)

* The installer does not propose a japanese keyboard, but I think that the jp106 keymap should be
fine (bug #342756).

* The fans run at max speed during the installation, this is very loud ! The modules to load are
windfarm_pm81 and windfarm_cpufreq_clamp (see #397942). Also, they are not added to /etc/modules,
causing the fans to run very loud on the installed system after reboot. This makes the computer
unusable for beginners who are not able to fix /etc/modules by themselves.

* The installer sees two eth interfaces, the RJ45 one, and the airport extreme one. However, it is
not able to name the airport extreme one. Also, now that there is a good driver for the airport
extreme cards, it could be useful to explain in the release notes why it can not be used in the
installer, and let the installer prepare everything in order to help the user to use it after reboot.

* The partitionner allows to chose four different inode size: classical, news, largefile and
largefile4. According to the french translation, news is 1 inode / 4 ko, largefile is 1 inode / o,
and largefile is 1 inode / Mo. Is it a translation error? 1 inode per octet seems small... Also, the
inode size of "classical" is not given.

* Partman uses some flags to describe what will happen to the partitions. While it is easy to guess
that F means that the partition will be formatted, the two others I encountered (B and K) could
desserve explanation (I was not using the expert mode).

* Just after starting to download the Release and Packages files from the mirrors, the screen is red
whithout any text for some time (I think that my mirror was a bit slow). This generates anxiety...

* The CD drive on iMacs is vertical, and with time tends to let the CDfall drop instead to nicely
present them to the owner. Is it possible not to eject the CD automatically after the install, by
having a "press a key to eject" message, or something similar?

I have an old installation report (#340980), which is sort of obsoleted by this one. Can I close it?

Have a nice day,

for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising
disk usage, and copying data to new hard disks. This package
contains the Parted binary and manual page.
 .
This package contains libparted, the required shared library
used by Parted. This is a cut-down package with no normal
documentation intended to be used in debian-installer.
 .
Parted currently supports DOS, Mac, Sun, BSD, GPT, MIPS and
PC98 disklabels/partition tables, as well as a 'loop' (raw
disk) type which allows use on RAID/LVM. Filesystems which
are currently fully supported are ext2, ext3, fat (FAT16
and FAT32), ReiserFS (with libreiserfs) and linux-swap.
Parted can also detect and remove HFS (Mac OS), JFS, NTFS,
UFS (Sun and HP), XFS and ASFS/AFFS/APFS (Amiga) filesystems,
but cannot create, resize or check these filesystems yet.
 .
Note that ReiserFS support is only enabled if you install
the libreiserfs0.3-0 package. Since libreiserfs0.3-0 has been
removed from sarge, ReiserFS support is not compiled in the
 default package.

The nature of this software means that any bugs could cause
massive data loss. While there are no known bugs at the moment,
they could exist, so please back up all important files before

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
