Comments/Problems:

Debian is unable to recognise my SATA-drives. Even when I enter legacy or
normal IDE-mode which should run with normal IDE-drivers it fails. When
booting with AHCI the following error occures:

| unexpected IRQ trap at vector 10
| ata1: qc timeout (cmd 0xec)
| ata1: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x104)
| ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)
| ata1: qc timeout (cmd 0xec)
| ata1: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x104)
| ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)
| ata1: qc timeout (cmd 0xec)
| ata1: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x104)
| ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)
| scsi1 : ahci

I'm not sure wheter this is a module or a driver problem since knoppix
running also with 2.6.17 says here:

| ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123)
| ata1: dev 0 cfg 49:2f00 82:746b 83:7f01 84:4023 85:7469 86:3c01 87:4023
88:20ff
| ata1: dev 0 ATA-7, max UDMA7, 781422768 sectors: LBA48
| ata1: dev 0 configured for UDMA/133

and everything works fine then. Since lsmod shows no modules like libata or
ahci when running knoppix it seems the drivers are already compiled in the
kernel. But I'm not sure if knoppix is using vanilla kernels or if there
are patches supplied. If it is for any use I could provide /boot/
config-2.6.17 from the knoppix system.

Even when I try to load the modules by hand with the debian installer they
don't recognise my disk(s).

Please let me know if I could provide any other helpful information.

best regards

         Sebastian

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
