Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it
Initial boot worked: [O]
Configure network HW: [O]
Config network: [O]
Detect CD: [O]
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives: [O]
Partition hard drives: [O]
Create file systems: [O]
Mount partitions: [O]
Install base system: [E]
Install boot loader: [O]
Reboot: [O]
Comments/Problems:
Tried only expert mode and recovery.
According to the installer the cd is 'Debian GNU/Linux testing "Etch" -
Official Snapshot i386 Binary-1 (20060314)'.
Consider:
s/Official Snapshot/Beta 2/ (well it would be too late for that one but in
the future...)
s/Binary-1/businesscard/ (It is most certainly not Binary-1)
If "rescue" is valid as a boot option, is there any need for expert to show
the "rescue-mode" debian installer module
in the "Load installer components from CD" prompt?
The above checklist list appears out of order as (AFAICT) "Load installer
modules" must occur before "Configure network HW"
and "Config network".
For the US the default server is ftp.debian.org. It seems to me that
ftp.us.debian.org would be better because it is round-robin
and won't over-stess one server. ftp.debian.org is already overused.
The size of the swap partition chosen by the guided parrtitioner seems
rather small. I thought the rule of thumb was 2x RAM Size?
While the example username of "imurdock" makes good sense :) the other
example of "rms" may not be ideal considering that
apparently quite a few d-leagal readers are not fans of Stallman.
REQUEST: Downloading of Base system should be abortable (The mirror I chose
was way too slow, but I had to
wait for the whole base system to download).
ERROR: Disconnecting from network during download of base system caused
installer to lock up! (I used VT2 to reboot, and reran setup)
Rescue mode seems to work. One small problem when I choose
"/dev/discs/disc0/part1" (which is appearrently hda1 [which is '/']), and
then choose to
run a shell in the installer environment, the next message says in part
"[...] you will be given a shell with mounted on /target". It seems that
something is missing between 'with' and 'mounted'

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful
The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.
In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.
You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.
If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.
Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
