Reboot: [E]

Comments/Problems:
 - for some reason, the network hardware was not automatically
detected, and the correct modules were not loaded. I would have
expected it to load the forcedeth (for the onboard nvidia nic) and/or
tlan (for the compaq PCI nic) modules, but it only loaded the eth1394
modules (which makes no sense, as no firewire devices at all were
   attached).
The installer then tried to do dhcp over the firewire device, which
obviously failed. After manually removing the eth1394 module and
modprobing the correct one (forcedeth), a retry of the dhcp process
   worked fine.
 - As I was upgrading my machine, rather than installing from scratch, I
wanted to preserve some partitions, specifically /scratch and
/scratch/Film. However, it turned out that /scratch already
contained a symlink named "Film", so mounting of /scratch/Film
failed. At that point, the installer presented me with an error page
which was pretty unhelpful (just said something about "couldn't mount
partitions", without being specific about which one) and had no
"retry" or "go back" buttons. Even worse, it seems the mounting
process was interrupted after trying to mount /scratch/Film, so /usr,
/usr/local and /var were not mounted. The installer, however, still
tried to continue after showing the error screen, so I had to reboot
   and start from scratch.
 - After rebooting, the forcedeth and sata-nv modules were not loaded.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
