Comments/Problems: Hi team, using a distribution that came with magazine on dvd.
Have installed red hat several times a few years ago, but this is first time for debian and as a new build on clean skin machine. See many discussions about SATA problem and Raid. But believe my problem may be more basic in that the SATA SEAGATE disk is not formatted. 
The Gigabyte Motherboard in Advanced bios settings allows two choices for SiS Serial ATA Mode either RAID or IDE. I have tried to install using both settings and get a similar error each time.
On IDE setting after getting a start installation banner where it advises to type debian, receive loading, and then a error – Disk error 80, AX= 42DO drive 9F
Changing the BIOS setting to RAID on the Sis Controller, was a little different…after typing debian to start initialisation, it advised loading /isntall/vmlinuz …and a short time after that came back with Disk error 80, AX= 4280 drive 9F ……
 
From reading some discussions about ATA there are some examples, but wondering if my problem is not more basic – Should I be using a LILO or doing something to format/partition the hard disk first?
 
Would I have better chance by loading xp and then doing a dual boot type build? …really would prefer just having linux on this machine……

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
  the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
  D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
  fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful


The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet. 

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
