Comments/Problems:
After creating the file system on a new hard drive, The system
started downloading some files, and then the LCD screen alternated
between black and white with a cycle time of about 4 seconds.

I tried booting with "install DEBIAN_FRONTEND=newt"
The system booted with a semi-grahical frontend.
I needed to ignore a windows partion because it caused an error.
I got as far as "Install the base system" and it had downloaded a few
files when I got the following error message;
Debootstrap warning
Warning: Failure trying to run: chroot /target mount -t proc proc
/proc

Base system installation error
The debootstrap program exited with an error (return value 1).
Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4 for the details.

I used Ctrl+Alt+F4 and got a screen full of messages.
hopefully the relevent message is;
Nov 26 06:56:09 debootstrap: chroot: cannot execute mount: No such
file or directory

I tried a second time with the same result.
I switched to console 2 and tried "export MALLOC_CHECK_=1"
no output.
tried "export DEBIAN_FRONTEND=gtk"
no output.
tried "debian-installer"
A few lines of text showed briefly, and the screen went offwhite with
a mouse cursor in the middle. The mouse had no effect, and the
keyboard appeared to have no effect.
I tried Ctrl+Alt+Fx (all the F keys). I also tried
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, all with no effect.
My machine has locked up.

Andrew.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
